Fieldbus
Connectivity
The DL5000 is a
free-standing ready-to-use product. It acts as a gateway that has the
ability to convert any serial application protocol to fieldbus network
protocols. The DL5000 enables integration of industrial devices without loss
of functionality, control and reliability, both when retro-fitting to
existing equipment as well as when setting up new installations. There is
one DL5000 for each major Fieldbus network, setting up a whole range of
products. The DL5000 has fieldbus support for Profibus-DP,
DeviceNet, Ethernet,
LonWorks, CANopen
and Modbus Plus. Support for more networks will follow.
Serial protocol
support
Initially the DL5000
has a serial protocol support for Modbus RTU/ASCII, the most commonly used
serial protocols on the market. Protocols that are similar to Modbus RTU/ASCII
are also supportable through simple configuration using the configurator
described below. More extensive protocol changes are possible through HMS
custom implementation. The product supports both Modbus RTU/ASCII master and
slave modes and provides multi-drop to a maximum of four nodes.
Configuration and
monitoring
The DL5000 is fully
configurable through a user-friendly Windows configurator. Just hook up your
PC to the configuration port and configure the fieldbus network properties
as well as the serial sub-network. The same port can also be used for
on-line diagnostics and monitoring. The user can choose between pre-defined
Modbus commands and is also allowed to create new commands.
