ATLAS T3 NetworkingExecutive OverviewADTRAN provides a new T3 module for ATLAS that offers T3 networking in a small and affordable package. Often, T3 is more economical compared to as few as eight T1 lines. If your network could benefit from converting from a number of T1s to T3, the new T3 ATLAS 800 module is now available. IntroductionATLAS 800 is a modular and scalable integrated access device for end users and network service providers. With the new T3 module, the ATLAS 800 can be configured to accept a T3 circuit and then groom the channels to other T1 lines or user equipment. Network service providers may groom several T1s into a T3 circuit, and ATLAS provides all the internal CSUs and management software to make it cost effective. In large-scale networks, a network manager may be able to reduce the monthly expenses of T1 circuits by upgrading to T3. Usually it becomes more cost effective and saves money to implement a T3 network after reaching eight or 10 T1 lines.
ADTRAN SolutionThe ATLAS 800 T3 Module operates as a T3 bandwidth manager, a "3/1/0 DACS", an M13 Multiplexer, and a DS0 level DACS - all in a single, economical platform. The ATLAS platform can be configured to switch up to 60 T1s' worth of DS0 channels on its switch backplane. With the new T3 module, ATLAS will cross-connect or groom the DS0 channels coming in from the T3 just as if the channels came from 28 individual T1 lines. The channels can be cross-connected and groomed between the T3 circuit and a number of T1 lines, V.35 data ports, or dropped to another ATLAS or T3 device. The T3 module includes a coaxial interface and is available in two versions - a single port and a dual port version. The dual port version includes two sets of coax BNC connectors. One set of BNC connectors is the primary set and connects with the T3 circuit. The second set of connectors provides the drop port for adding an external T3 device or connecting multiple ATLAS devices together so that some of the traffic is terminated in one ATLAS and other traffic is passed to a second ATLAS. SummaryAll the functionality of the ATLAS Integrated Access device can now be applied in a channelized T3 environment. The T3 ATLAS module elevates integrated access solutions to a new platform of speed and capacity.
