High-speed Internet access with DSL technology
Digital subscriber line (DSL) technology is fast. Once users experience DSL
speeds, they do not want to go back to dialup access. DSL achieves broadband

The Alcatel SHDSL solution

solution is a low-cost, high-speed, symmetric service that providers can deploy

DSL technology with minimal investment.
Alcatel's SHDSL solution is based on the G.shdsl standard established by the
International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector
(ITU-T). G.shdsl is a version of symmetrical rate adaptive DSL that can
accommodate line rates from 192 kilobits per second (kb/s) to 2.3 megabits per
second (Mb/s).
The cost-effective alternative to E1
Alcatel's SHDSL solution gives providers a platform to deliver improved services
at a much lower cost than traditional E1 - with the flexibility to satisfy a
variety of service needs and generate increased revenue. Alcatel's solution
allows providers to easily and cost-effectively deploy symmetric services.
Alcatel's SHDSL offers the benefits of E1 and can be used in the same bundled
cable loop as ADSL, without causing interference.
Faster data rates - both upstream and downstream
As the Internet evolves from an information-downloading network to an
information-sharing network, users need a solution that enables them to quickly
move information online. Uploading and downloading are both faster with
Alcatel's SHDSL solution.
Because SHDSL is symmetric, its maximum data rate is the same both upstream
and downstream. Typically, SHDSL generates speeds of 2.3 Mb/s upstream and
downstream.

Business customers need the high speed of E1 transmission, leased line services,
and guaranteed performance for high bandwidth, mission-critical applications
such as voice, video, and data.
Specifically designed with these users in mind, SHDSL has faster upstream
