Alcatel 5740 Service Subscription Manager
Release 1.2
The Alcatel 5740 Service Subscription Manager (SSM) automates the activation
of DSL-based services such as high speed Internet, business Internet and digital
video. Broadband access is experiencing exponential growth, and the challenge to
service providers is to quickly and profitably roll out services. By automating
DSL service provisioning, the 5740 SSM significantly reduces operational costs
and dramatically improves service deployment capacity.
Fast DSL activation
The 5740 SSM simplifies and streamlines the activation of DSL services. The
5740 SSM enables service providers to define services and specify policies and
configuration. Once defined, users need only record the customer details and
assign the selected services. The activation of the service over the DSL, ATM
and IP network is fully automated.
OSS interface support
The 5740 SSM supports an optional product called the Alcatel 5712 CORBA
Service OSS Interface. The 5712 CORBA allows integration with other operations
support systems, such as order handling.
"Out-of-the-box" installation
The 5740 SSM is designed to work with the Alcatel 5620 Network Manager (NM) on
an "out-of-the-box" basis. The 5740 SSM automatically learns about
customer and content provider networks. The user interface is designed to be
intuitive, thus reducing the time for training new users.
Flexible service definition
The 5740 SSM offers flexible service definition capabilities, providing full
control over service definition and implementation. For example, you can define
a residential service level, as well as small to medium business offerings. The
services can be deployed on different DSL technologies including ADSL and SDSL.
The 5740 SSM can transport services over an edge and core network comprising IP,
ATM and frame technologies.
Service assurance and maintenance
The 5740 SSM provides invaluable features for the assurance of DSL services.
Front line staff can easily identify the status of a customer's service such as
port measurement, including the up/down-stream rates, noise and power levels. As
a result, Level one support operators can quickly respond to customer issues.
The 5740 SSM also provides features for minimizing resources needed to
maintain customer service levels. For example, the 5740 SSM provides an enhanced
regrooming feature that enables users to regroom customer services in bulk,
while maintaining the same DLCI/VPI/VCI. The result is significant time savings
for ongoing maintenance of services.
New services - broadcast video and video on demand
The 5740 SSM continues to support the management of new services offered over
DSL, including support for video services over DSL. The 5740 SSM abstracts the
complexities of the video from the user and assigns a predefined video service
to the subscriber.
Enhanced ISP retail and wholesaling partnerships
The 5740 SSM enhances ISP retail and wholesale business models. The network
access provider can provide both retail and wholesale ISP partners with a
customized 5740 SSM user interface. The application enables granular control
over information and functions allocated to ISP users. The Java GUI operates on
a standard PC that connects to the 5740 SSM server through a secure firewall.
Self-service portal
The self-service portal allows the creation of branded portals to customize
the content provided on the 5740 SSM.
