Alcatel 5730
VPN Service Manager | Rel. 1.0
The Alcatel 5730 VPN Service Manager (VSM), formerly the 930 VSM*, allows
service providers to offer multiservice VPNs to business customers.
Service provisioning
The service definition capabilities of the 5730 VSM allow service providers
to create a catalog of templates for business services, each with a predefined
set of attributes. This service catalog can then be made available to customers
through web access. To activate a new service on demand, the user selects the
service template and the endpoints. The request is forwarded to the Alcatel 5620
Network Manager (NM), formerly the 46020 Network Manager*, which applies the
change to the affected nodes. Confirmation of the change is then returned to the
user. This fully automated service provisioning process results in fewer errors
and faster provisioning. For service providers, minimal technical expertise is
required to provision a new service. As a result, fewer operations resources are
required.
Customer assurance
The 5730 VSM presents information in terms of customers, sites and services.
Using a single screen, customers can view the end-to-end status of their
services, along with the status of each endpoint. Service providers can also
apply notification priorities to customers, sites and services. The 5730 VSM
then analyzes network failures, details customers affected, and presents the
customer impact to the user.
Performance management
The 5730 VSM enables service providers to demonstrate to customers that they
are receiving the level of service for which they have contracted. From the 5730
VSM, account managers and customers can generate reports for their frame relay
and ATM services. The 5730 VSM reports on critical metrics such as congestion,
volume and utilization, providing an early warning sign of performance problems
in the network.
