Alcatel 48-port SHDSL Line Card

The high density 48-port symmetric high speed digital subscriber line (SHDSL) line card is part of the Alcatel DSL product family, which offers scalable, carrier class, high speed access to the multiservice ATM backbone network. It fits into the Alcatel 7350 ASAM, a DSL access node, formerly the 350 Integrated Versatile Services Node (IVSN)*, and delivers broadband access to residential and business customers, with symmetric rates up to 2.3 Mb/s on one single copper pair.

Providers can spread the cost of providing DSL access over a full range of ATM-based services, including fast Internet access, virtual private networks (VPNs), remote LAN access, LAN or PBX interconnection, voice over DSL, and legacy services (such as frame relay, T1/E1). The Alcatel 48-port SHDSL line card complies with the worldwide SHDSL standard - ITU-T G.991.2.

Key Benefits

The SHDSL line card provides 48 SHDSL line terminations and ATM layer functions to extend the broadband network over unconditioned copper.

The SHDSL standard ITU-T G.991.2 (formerly G.shdsl) offers great improvements compared to the previous symmetric DSL 2B1Q implementation such as:

  • Interoperability with any standard based SHDSL CPE (including the Alcatel Speed Touch family of CPE/IAD)
  • Reach increase by a 15 to 20 percent ratio
  • Data rate gain by a 35 to 45 percent ratio
  • Crosstalk/interference reduction with improved power spectral density (ANSI and ETSI PSD)
  • Better spectral compatibility with ADSL
  • Data rates granularity improvement between 192 kb/s and 2,304 kb/s
