In the competitive field of wafer manufacturing, one of the keys
to success is cost control, and good ratio is the most important
factor to affect cost. In addition to improving the manufacturing
process, reducing faulty manual operations cannot be overemphasized.
For this reason, computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems
have been adopted in production management and process simulation
to provide timely information.
The company mentioned here has developed just such a CIM system.
They are using a PC running Windows NT 4.0 that is installed with
MOXA C320 to connect each wafer testing machine and robot via
the RS-232 interface to collect and save all testing results into
a database. The Windows NT Server uses the network to upload data
to the IBM or Alpha DEC for further processing, greatly simplifying
the automation of production management.
