| The Serial-to-Ethernet products discussed in this

short history, having been developed first by Moxa Technologies Co.,
Inc. in 1994. With the popularity of serial device servers tied closely
to the increasing prevalence of Ethernet LANs in both business and
industrial settings, serial-to-Ethernet products have begun to take off
in recent years, and are certainly destined to become a major player in
the communications and industrial automation markets. In fact, although
the marriage of serial with Ethernet was originally one of convenience,
it is quickly becoming a matter of necessity.
Our primary aim in writing this book was to
provide potential users of serial-to-Ethernet products with the
