Remote Temperature and Humidity Data Acquisition
System

_____________________________________________________________________________
Pico Technology was established in 1991 and soon became a leader
in the field of virtual instruments for data acquisition. Since
then, others have produced similar products but we like to think
that nobody does it quite as well. Pico has always been recognized
for providing innovative, low cost alternatives to traditional
test equipment and data acquisition products: by doing so we have
made high quality instrumentation affordable. Our aim is to serve
our customers to the best of our ability, saving them time and
money.
For some time, Pico's customers have been using IP networking
for remote data acquisition (monitoring of temperature, humidity,
mains power consumption etc). The problem was that a PC was required
at each location that data had to be collected. Using the MOXA
NPort Express device server allows us to plug in our serial port
based data acquisition products anywhere on a network without
the need for additional PCs. "This application shows how our products
can be remotely connected using a Ethernet to serial port adaptor"
quoted Pico in its recent application notes. This application
has cost, security and size advantages quite suitable for the
customers.
Here is a case Pico recently completed in success. One multinational
transport company have an Ethernet network that spans several
European countries and each country has a room full of computer
severs. They used the Pico RH-02s to monitor the temperature and
humidity in each server room and transmit data via MOXA NPort
Express to the host in the company. "MOXA NPort Express enables
RS232 devices to be connected directly into an Ethernet TCP/IP
LAN or WAN network. To the remote PC, the NPort Express serial
port appears as a 'virtual' local serial (COM) port", says the
chief product engineer. "Using MOXA NPort Express any of our serial
port products can be used remotely in this way", Pico are very
satisfied with the results and have published the application
note on their website.
