Question
|
What should I do if NPower Commander's OS crashes? |
|
Applies To:
|
PO1008, PO1108, PO1208, PO1308 |
|
Answer
|
NPower Commander
has a built-in "watch dog" function that will automatically restart
NPower Commander when its OS responds incorrectly. This action won't
change the current On/Off status of NPower Commander's 8 power
outlets.

Question
|
How many PCs and devices can be simultaneously
controlled by NPower Commander? |
|
Applies To:
|
PO1008, PO1108, PO1208, PO1308 |
|
Answer
|
It depends on the
power consumption of all devices connected to NPower Commander's 8
power outlets. Typically, each NPower Commander can support a total
maximum power drain of 1200W.
For example,
each headless PC (i.e., without a monitor, keyboard, etc.) uses about
180W. Based on this information, each NPower Commander can support a
full load of about 6 PCs.

Question
|
After using the "arp -s" command to set up NPower
Commander's IP address, I am unable to contact its web page with my
web browser. |
|
Applies To:
|
PO1008, PO1108, PO1208, PO1308 |
|
Answer
|
The "arp -s"
command will only work if your computer and NPower Commander are
connected to the same subnet.
For example, if
your computer is [IP address: 192.168.1.1] [Netmask: 255.255.255.0],
you may use the Console Terminal or USB port setup methods to set up
NPower Commander as [IP address: 192.168.1.2] [Netmask:
255.255.255.0].

Question
|
I forgot the Ethernet and/or Telnet password. |
|
Applies To:
|
PO1008, PO1108, PO1208, PO1308 |
|
Answer
|
In this case, you
will need to use the Console Terminal to reinstall NPower Commander's
firmware.
<Procedures for
Upgrading Firmware>
By Console
Terminal
- Use a
cross-over cable to connect NPower Commander's RS-232 port to the
PC's COM1/COM2 port.
- Copy the new
firmware to a specific directory.
- Run Hyper
Terminal to enter Ports Settings page; set the COM1/COM2's
properties as (Baud Rate: 115200, Data Bits: 8, Parity: None, Stop
Bits: 1, Flow Control: None).
- Open
File\Properties to enter the [Settings] page, and choose VT100 from
the [Emulation] pull-down menu. If the NPower unit is switched OFF,
switch it ON. If the NPower unit is switched ON, then you must first
switch it OFF and then switch it back ON.
- Type letter
"C" immediately after setting the "Check u-dram..." message
to enter command mode.
- When the dash
(-) shows on the screen, type upgr as "- upgr".
- Open
"Transfer\Send File..." to indicate the new firmware directory (you
should complete this action within 25 seconds).
- Type the full
path name of the upgrade file, or use the Browse... button to
locate it, select Xmodem, and then [Send].
- After the
firmware has been successfully upgraded, you will see 'Upgrade
Complete'.

Question
|
After setting up my NPower Commander
master model's IP address, the web page shows garbled images. |
|
Applies To:
|
PO1008, PO1108, PO1208, PO1308 |
|
Answer
|
- The NPower
Commander's IP address may conflict with other devices connected to
the same LAN.
a. If NPower
Commander is connected to a private LAN, then its IP address must be
different from other devices (computers, routers, etc.) located on
the same LAN.
b. If NPower
Commander is connected to a public LAN, then you should use a valid
public IP address, which is usually obtained from an ISP.
- If you are
using cascaded NPower commanders, then your NPower Commander master
model may have a cascade ID conflict with an NPower Commander slave
model.
Since each NPower Commander is shipped with the default cascade ID
of 00 (zero-zero), you must set up the master model's cascade ID
before cascading to any slave models.
You will need to cascade the slave models one-by-one, setting up the
newly connected slave model's cascade ID before cascading to another
slave.
Please see the
"Important Note on Cascading NPower Commanders" section in Chapter 3
of the NPower Commander User's Manual.
