Make Devices Internet Ready
In the automation industry, tens of millions of sensors, gauges,
PLCs, card readers, and other devices must be connected to form
a control network and provide managerial data for information
systems. The most widely used interfaces for connecting such devices
are RS-232 and RS-422/485.
In recent years, network infrastructures such as Ethernet and
Internet have received wide recognition in the automation industry.
The trend has been towards adopting a mature, open technology,
such as TCP/IP and Ethernet, for controlling devices. Device manufacturers
and device users are both looking for an instant solution to transform
and hook their devices up to the Ethernet/Internet.
MOXA NPort Express provides just such an INSTANT solution, giving
you a way to link traditional devices that have an RS-232/422/485
interface with the Ethernet/Internet.
How to Make Your Serial Devices Internet Ready
INSTANTLY
To change a serial device into a network-enabled device can take
much time and effort, considering the development and integration
required for the CPU, DSP, TCP/IP protocol, and real time operating
system.
But now it is no longer necessary to invest extra manpower on
TCP/IP and Ethernet development. MOXA NPort Express provides off-the-shelf
solutions that utilize a serial device's existing RS-232/422/485
port and make your devices Internet ready.
MOXA provides two ways to bring this about.
External Solution: NPort
Express
Embedded Solution: NPort
Express Module
How a PC Accesses Serial Data through NPort Express
Two approaches are available to access serial
data:

Driver Access
By using NPort's Native COM driver, NPort Express's serial port
can be set up to emulate a remote COM port. In this case, there
is no need to modify software or communication objects. The solution
can be used immediately with NPort Express's serial port, and
is applicable to all Windows platforms, and Linux/Unix (fixed
tty) systems that have driver support.
Socket Access
Use TCP/IP socket to access the serial datd via a specific NPort
Express TCP port. This solution is applicable to any system with
TCP/IP connectivity.
