Question
|
Why is it sometimes possible to Ping and
Telnet NPort Server, but NPort Server Manager and Firmware Utility
fail to find the NPort Server? |
|
Applies To:
|
NPort Server Pro: DE303/308.
NPort Server Lite: DE301/302/304/331/332/334.
NPort Express: DE311/311M. |
|
Answer
|
There are 2 possible
causes of this situation.
- The PC and
Nport Server are connected via a router.
- The PC and
Nport Server are connected via a NAT server.
[Solution]
- If the PC and
Nport Server are connected via a router:
You can assign an
IP manually from NPort Manager (or Utility), instead of using Auto
search.
- The PC and
NPort Server are connected via a NAT server:
The following
procedure solves this problem:
a. Type the
NPort Server IP address manually when using NPort Manager or
Firmware Utility.
b. Ask your
Network Administrator to open UDP ports 0x404 and 0x405. Both NPort
Server Manager and Firmware Utility will broadcast a "locate
request" to search for NPort Servers on the LAN.
Since a Router will filter all broadcast packets, neither NPort
Utility nor NPort Manager can find an NPort Server located outside a
Router. Hence, the locate request packet is filtered by the Router,
and the NAT Server not only filters the broadcast packet but also
changes the source TCP/UDP port for each IP packet.
The previous firmware version of NPort Server will check the UDP
port of the sender before replying. That 's why NPort Server can't
be found through a NAT Server. The latest firmware version has
solved this problem.

Question
|
Do NPort Server Family and Async Server Family support
UDP protocol? |
|
Applies To:
|
NPort Server Pro: DE303/308
NPort Server Lite: DE301/302/304/331/332/334
NPort Express: DE311/311M
Async Server: CN2100/CN2504/CN2508/CN2516 |
|
Answer
|
Both NPort Server Family and Async Server Family support UDP protocol
for utilities only, but most of these products do not support UDP
programming.
The exceptions are NPort Express DE311 and DE311M, which both
support UDP programming.

Question
|
How do I establish a TCP connection in Raw Connection
mode when using NPort Express? |
|
Applies To:
|
NPort Express: DE311/311M |
|
Answer
|
Follow this procedure to establish a TCP connection in RAW Connection
mode.
- Telnet NPort
Express's IP address.
- In the [OP_mode]
menu, set [Application] to "Raw Connection (TCP Server)".
- In
[Description/more setting], set [TCP port ] as needed; note that the
default [TCP port] value is [4001].
For example, if
NPort Express's IP is 192.168.127.254 (default value), simply issue
the command "telnet 192.168.127.254 4001" to establish a TCP
connection. |

Question
|
Can I change the Serial Communication Parameters with
my own software while under "RAW Connection" mode of NPort Express? |
|
Applies To:
|
NPort Express: DE311/311M |
|
Answer
|
No, RAW Connection
allows data transmission only.
If you want to configure NPort Express's Serial Communication

Question
|
What is NPort Server Express's TCP Port Number? |
|
Applies To:
|
NPort Express: DE311/311M |
|
Answer
|
- Host Based
Mode:
The
DE311/311M driver uses TCP Port 950 as a data port and 966 as a
command port.
- RAW
Connection and Ethernet Modem Mode:
There are no
command ports for these operation modes. Both modes only use a
configurable TCP data Port, which is set to 4001 by default.
- Pair
Connection Mode:
There is no
command port in this operation mode. The only port is a TCP data
port, which is set to 4001 by default (this port number is fixed).

Question
|
How is the NPort Server Family's firmware upgraded
under Windows2000? |
|
Applies To:
|
Nort Server Lite: DE301/302/304/DE331/332/334
NPort Server Pro: DE308/303
NPort Express: DE311/311M |
|
Answer
|
At this time, NPort
Server Family's Windows 2000 driver does not support the [NPort
Manager] utility.
The method for upgrading NPort Server Family's firmware under
Windows 2000 is as follows.
- First
download NPort Family's latest Windows 2000 driver, which includes
an "Upgrade.exe" utility (software is located at the web site
at http://web..com.tw/services/download/download.asp).
- Run "Upgrade.exe".
This utility starts by searching for NPort devices connected to the
network.
- After an
NPort device is found, select the new firmware and upgrade it.
- If no NPort
Server Devices could be found, you will need to input an IP address
manually. After an NPort device is found, you can upgrade the
firmware.

Applies To:
|
NPort Express: DE311/311M |
|
Answer
|
You
can check the pair connection status via the console program as
follows.
- telnet NPort
Express's IP address.
- Check the
"Conn. Status" message under [Monitor].
