Alcatel 7410 Access Server
VoIP Gateway
The revolution in voice/data convergence has carriers and service providers
scrambling to build the next generation network (NGN). Simplicity, flexibility,
cost-effectiveness - these are among the requirements for designing and
deploying the new millennium network. And there's no better way to ensure
success than with the Architects of an Internet World - Alcatel.
With the Alcatel 7410 Access Server (AS), Alcatel again meets the expectation
of superior quality. The Alcatel 7410 AS provides best in class density for
connecting dialup users to the Internet. Because dialup data connections
continue to thrive, dial platforms are a logical environment to also deliver
voice and fax services. And the Alcatel 7410 AS was designed to accommodate this
multiservice transition. In essence, the Alcatel 7410 AS can act as either a
dialup access server or a voice over IP (VoIP) gateway for today's H.323 VoIP
applications. With the Alcatel 7410 AS, service providers can provision advanced
calling features on a scale found only in today's circuit switched voice
networks.
Cost-effective solution
The Alcatel 7410 AS is a cost-effective solution that enables carriers and
service providers to leverage their existing SS7 infrastructure and relieve PSTN
switch congestion. By seamlessly linking IP networks to the PSTN, the
H.323-compliant 7410 AS enables voice and fax calling over IP-based networks.
With universal modem server (UMS) modules, the Alcatel 7410 AS converts incoming
analog voice or facsimile calls into IP packets before they are forwarded to
their destination via an IP network. Another Alcatel 7410 AS receives the IP
packets and converts the digital data back into analog (voice) format. The
analog voice is then transmitted to the called recipient through the local PSTN.
The 7410 Access Server's efficiency is a key enabler for faster service
deployment and significant cost reduction by using IMTs (InterMachine Trunks)
rather than more costly PRI lines.
An IP-based telephony solution for service providers of all types
The Alcatel 7410 AS is a solution designed for all types of service providers
- whether newly emerging or traditional carriers. ISPs, for example, can use the
Alcatel 7410 AS to offer voice services in addition to Internet access.
For new or alternative carriers, the Alcatel 7410 AS enables a low cost entry
into the VoIP market through toll bypass, an IP-based telephony solution that
circumvents long distance charges. New service providers looking to compete in
the long distance market, for example, can deploy Alcatel 7410 Access Servers at
different points of presence (POPs) and as a result, offer competitive voice,
data and fax services. Long distance calls are routed through the data packet
network rather than through the traditional voice network, reducing expensive
PSTN circuit switching costs. Traditional carriers can also profit in the VoIP
market through wholesaling ports on the 7410 AS to new carriers. By deploying
Alcatel 7410 Access Servers at the edge of their network, traditional carriers
give new service providers a PSTN termination point for VoIP traffic. Thus,
regardless of their business model, service providers will find a profitable
VoIP solution with the Alcatel 7410 AS.
SS7 signaling support
The Alcatel 7410 AS, in conjunction with the Alcatel 5424 Call Signaling
Gateway (CSG), supports SS7 call signaling messages in PSTN call set up and
termination, allowing cost-effective delivery of services and new revenue
solutions for managing converged voice and data networks. These revenue
opportunities include one-stage dialing, prepaid calling services, basic long
distance services, and wholesale VoIP services. By acting as a critical bridge
to the SS7 network, the Alcatel 5424 CSG works with the 7410 AS to enable two
often mutually exclusive results: cost savings and increased revenue from
value-added services.
Service management simplified
To succeed in the NGN market, carriers and service providers need to spend
less time managing their networks and more time planning and implementing high
value services. The Alcatel 7410 AS, at the most basic level, minimizes
management and equipment costs by supporting data, voice and fax on the same
platform.
With advanced features such as automatic modem allocation, the Alcatel 7410
AS supports simultaneous V.90 modem calls, ISDN access, VoIP traffic and FoIP
services. Flexible VoIP/FoIP connectivity includes phone to phone, phone to PC,
and fax to fax. The Alcatel 7410 AS, when coupled with the Alcatel 5735 Service
Management Center (SMC), provides a highly sophisticated solution for managing
multiple gateways as a unified resource. The SMC includes a built-in H.323
gatekeeper and complete accounting capabilities, allowing service providers a
high level view and control of all the Alcatel 7410 Access Servers in the
network.
The Alcatel 7410 Access Server's flexible management suite allows service
providers to quickly and efficiently manage, provision, configure and
troubleshoot their networks.
High reliability and interoperability
The Alcatel 7410 Access Server provides high availability, non-stop
operation, and carrier grade quality. With a distributed architecture and
redundancy in the buses, power supplies, fans and control modules, the Alcatel
7410 AS ensures high performance with no single points of failure. In addition,
the Alcatel 7410 AS interoperates with Alcatel's 5735 SMC Gatekeeper and other
H.323 standard gatekeepers, guaranteeing that proper VoIP functions will work in
virtually any multivendor environment.
